No matter what your religious beliefs or feelings on this one, My question is;
Why is the Church allowed to blatantly discriminate against women? In any other situation this would be sexual discrimination and end up in a tribunal.
Being a Bishop is surely a job albeit a vocational one and as such falls under legislation applicable to employment law.

....and I'm with Pasha (well not literally) and I'm with you JP. What on earth is this? Voting against women Bishops? Half of the wars in this world appear to be caused by religion - for goodness sake lets get some straight thinking involved.

As far as I understand it,putting women into roles of authority in the Church, is against the teaching of the Bible. This is a tricky one as Christianity is supposed to be based on the Bible,so if you are a Christian and in favour of women Bishops, then you are going against the very fundamentals of the faith. Not sure how women playing other parts in the church fits. I think that women are very well fitted to roles in the Church,so should play a big part, I also think single men,who have no experience of marriage and children, should not be priests.

Is it only the 'english' church that discriminates against women?

Since I do not believe that we should take what the Bible says literally, I have no problem whatsoever with allowing women to become priests, Bishops or anything else.
As far as I can see (and this is only my personal viewpoint), the Church is so full of hyprocrisy that it makes no difference who is allowed to be a priest or Bishop......

I feel strongly that like in France the Chuch should be completely separate from the State, however, as Her Majesty the Queen is head of the Church of England that is a bit tricky, but taken that she is the Head of the Church and very much a woman, how the hell do the potificating idiots in the C of E not let her Bishops be female also. Cos if as stated above the Bible is against women leaders how can they accept the queen?

Strange too that the only group that did not vote overwhelmingly (if 64% in favour isn't overwhelming) was the House of Laity which of the 3 houses in the Synod has by far the highest female membership proportion.
