Is this on the QEII? It's like life from a bygone era, all that dressing up and long dresses for dinner! Just out of interest though, as I expect you had to fly home and don't have porters carrying your cabin trunks once off the ship, how on earth do you manage all the luggage needed for all those clothes, shoes and accessoires (kind of stuff I know nuffink about as I live in wellies . I'm enjoying seeing the photos by the way.

Sorry, didn't post well ref journey and ship as it was a posting for Ali piccies.
The ship is, my favourite, the Queen Mary 2.
This trip was Southampton to New York. Takes 6 days. Remember tis not a 'cruise' but a journey; no stops en route obviously. The ship was full. All sorts of travellers, families off to America lots of them american working in uk going home for holidays, some normal tourists, but lots of 'travellers'. Previously this ship had left New York for Southampton but instead of immediately returning to New York went on to cruise up to Norway and Fjords for 6 days, then back to Southampton for New York. A lot of Americans had done this round trip or had a week of touring the UK then back to the US. Funnily in these days of fast air travel there is still a call for travel by sea across the Atlantic, the QM2 is almost always full on the atlantic run.
Luggage is not a problem if you are on a round trip by boat, the rule is if it can fit in your cabin / stateroom you can take it. Combining with air travel can be a problem. On this trip 2 large suit cases and a large carry on was sufficient, easily handled. You can see that my clothes were minimal as most of the room went on Lady S's stuff. By the way if you are leaving the ship for a trip, later to return, they will store your excess luggage, for a price. We have flown out and back to this ship (america), our allowance was two large cases each and carry ons on Delta. All journeys booked through Cunard. Remember that you don't have to carry your luggage, send it on ahead or back via a carrier like DHL. Daughter no 2, that we went to visit, sent her stuff that way to New York. Needed to, packed 22 pairs of shoes, and thats only for 3 months working and she would be returning 4 times to the UK in that time.
Ali its not the other half, lots of normal people like us use the boats for travel.
PS the queens are american owned, not british any more, but you can't tell. Still very empire.
PPS Gentlemen are still on duty in the Ball Room to partner Ladies who may not have a male escort to dance with!
