Now this may seem a very trivial, even sad, thread to some of you, but to me it's VERY important, so don't laugh. In 3 and a bit years, I've destroyed 5 pairs of wellies. I don't know whether to go for cheapies, and keep replacing them regularly, or splurge on a supposedly really good brand. Any recommendations? They must have really good tread. We are talking serious working wellies, not pretty town-wear.

Gosh I misread the title of this and thought it was about something totally unrelated to footwear!!!On this subject I have very little to offer except -how do you destroy wellies? I would think they are as tough as can be.Have you bought cheap ones up to now? If so maybe a pair of more expensive are the answer,I'm sure there is someone on here with a more sensible contribution.

I adore my pair of Chameau's - but then I don't do as much in wellies as you do troll.................... www.lechameau.fr/Got mine from local Brico/PointVert.

I have never been able to find a pair of wellies to fit me. Even as a child I ended up with red weals across the back of my legs where the boot was pushed down because the legs weren't wide enough-or rather my legs were too wide. Most wellies won't even go over my feet.
I would love to have the chance ro destroy a pair of wellies!

I live in wellies for about 70% of the year and still wear them every day in mid summer to muck out the ducks.
I love Aigle wellies although I have found they start to wear in the creases around the ankles from all the squatting down I do in them when gardening - so water starts to seep in after a year or so.
That wouldn't be a problem for most people but I like to paddle in my pond sometimes, so waterproof ones do come in handy for that! ;D
They aren't cheap (about €70 I think?) but have very good treads and apart from the slight leaks they can be worn day in and day out for years and years without them wearing out.

I've had the same problem troll - don't know how many pairs of wellies I've destroyed over the past few years. Like MM says, they tend to split at the ankle.
Just splashed out on a pair of mauve Hunter wellies from Amazon UK (third of the usual price in their sale) and they are fab if a tad neat around the calves.
OH has Aigle ones - again, not cheap!

I've had the same pair of Hunter wellies for 6 years & am very pleased with them, very comfy & I wear them a lot for dog walking & gardening.

Interesting - all the replies are from ladies. Don't the men on this forum do any outdoor work? ;D

Thanks for your replies girls. I've sent my wish-list to the troll support unit; nicely in time for Christmas!!! Ali, the site you send a link to, I've been drooling soo much and feeling guilty even considering indulging, it's the equivalent of a porn site to mud-dwelling trolls.
